Madelena and Mayhem Sketchdump

Have you ever come up with a character or two and drawn like ten pages of stuff about one or both of them and always intend to collect it into a sketchdump and then never do it?
I hate when that happens.

So... Madelena and Mayhem. And a wee bit of Madelena's cousin Raymond down there at the bottom to fill up the white space. A big ol' universe grew out of Madelena and a character of 's. A world without magic! Mostly. A wee bit of magic creeps in, but this is the sort of world where a Cure Light potion is a miracle from God that needs to be preserved and spared for as long as possible.

Madelena is... cute. Would you believe she's 17 at the start? Please do, because there was a love story involved. I account for her size (Mel's 5 foot nothing and 98 pounds soaking wet) with a lifetime of illness and 17th century equivalent medical treatment. Just before her 18th birthday - when she would have been married off - she runs away from home to have an adventure like she's read about in her books. She gets one, and a romance with her bodyguard. Who is not on this page. ::looks at Kaio:: But that giant shirt she's got on is his.

And who's that handsome devil throwing books and smoking like a coal engine? Why it's Admiral Wilhelm Mayhem! HOORAY! Er, wait, don't call him that - it's Doctor Mayhem these days. Not that he's ever been to medical school. He's the 'doctor' in a traveling caravan that Mel and her bodyguard end up traveling with. Mel becomes his assistant. She isn't very good at it, and Mayhem is not a good teacher. But he helps her out when she's in a pinch (if she promises to shut up), and she's rather fond of him by the time they part ways.
Fun story about Mayhem: When he was an Admiral (see that Young Mayhem? Handsome!) he was given command of a cannon that actually used magic. It was a technological marvel for this world, and the likes of it never occurred again. He gave the order to fire it the first time. And it missed. And hit the opposing army's infantry. Miles away.
He retired pretty shortly after that.

Raymond is just Madelena's cousin. He's kinda a jerk, when you get down to it. Seriously I was desperate for a related character to toss in there. He has a long name.

I think my favorite is Mayhem chewing Mel out, his cigar floating cartoonishly in front of his face.
